Ashen Feathers

She heard the thunderstorm raging in the distance as her stinging, red skin peeked between the bandages. She was lucky; she was found by healers, who tended to her burns as best they could. They administered a multitude of berries and wrapped her in clean gauze. Even her burnt hair was excised.

Unfortunately, healers could only mend the body, and the wounds reached much deeper than that. She thought herself strong, that she could hold her own. But the thunder raging outside reminded her of how small she really was: how weak she really was.

This is a continuation of my last submission, "Cinder Bird." I decided to make this piece dramatic too, but much quieter. I tried to make it a profile of Tsubomi, but I made her hand to small. I guess it still works, if you think it's at 3/4 view...

I tried something different for this piece. I used a brush pen instead of the extra superfine pen I've been using (Faber-Castell, if you're curious). I think I might stick with it, since it goes with the theme.
